The Westside is a broad, overarching label that Jacksonville residents use for the many neighborhoods just across the St. Johns River from Southside and Mandarin. The Westside has some of the most affordable homes in the some of the most family-friendly neighborhoods. Like Riverside and Avondale, the Westside is well established, though there are more new construction options sprouting up as well. You can be close to downtown in the Ortega and Edgewood areas, or venture further west to a more small-town, rural feel. Since area residents consider the Westside all the geography west of town towards Gainesville, (home of the University of Florida), there are lots of large plots of land and home sites, with big yards and unspoiled natural pine forests. Further west are smaller villages such as Keystone Heights, which is dotted with lakes, and a popular spot for Jacksonville families to build their dream vacation waterfront home.
