The suburban explosion that Jacksonville has experienced has been marked in large part by its tremendous growth southward. The master planned community of Julington Creek Plantation started the trend for families to move south into St. Johns County. The establishment of the World Golf Village located off I-95 took its roots as the lynchpin for this spread southward, where you'll find some of the town's newest subdivisions, from mid-priced to the very upscale guard-gated communities like the King and Bear, and St. John's Forest. It's midway between Jacksonville and St. Augustine, about a 20 minute drive south of downtown. It's home to Bill Murray's Caddy Shack, and the World Golf Hall of Fame, the ultimate golf destination for players and fans of the game. We suggest a visit to the IMAX theatre, a fun feature for all. Attention please! "Listen Up" all you diehard shoppers, please continue about six miles further south, and you'll see off of I-95 (on both sides) a shopper's nirvana - the St. Augustine Premium Outlets. 85 stores and counting, with bargains upon bargains from the best known national retail chains like Saks, Nordstrom, Polo, Nike, and too many others to mention. Between Jacksonville and World Golf Village, another popular area referred to as the "210 Corridor" has many subdivisions, plus this area alone boasts three golf course communities within a five minute drive, and two more at World Golf Village. This would classify the area as "heaven on earth" for all you golf enthusiasts. St Johns County is a much sought after community because of the highly-ranked school district and family-friendly communities. The communities of Palencia and Nocatee deserve special mention. Both are just about 20 minutes outside Jacksonville's city limits with a comfortable ride up U.S.1, known to the locals as Philips Highway. Both are new, master-planned communities made for families, with every style, size and price point imaginable.
