Southside / Baymeadows Jacksonville FL Area Guide

Just a few miles south of Tinseltown, as you travel down the main artery of Southside Boulevard, there's a massive collection of smaller neighborhoods that come together to comprise what locals refer to as "Southside/Baymeadows." There's a new highway by-pass, the new I-295 "Jacksonville Beltway" that takes drivers all the way across Baymeadows Road to Phillips Highway, or U.S.1. One of the Southside/Baymeadows area's showplaces is the Avenues Mall, the first truly "high-end" indoor mall to be built in Jacksonville, with a million-plus square feet of shopping, dining and services. The Avenues is anchored by five major department stores: Belk, Forever 21, Dillard's, JC Penney and Sears. Visit over 150 retail shoppes for men and women's fashion (American Eagle, Aeropostale, Aldo, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic). For home fashion stop by the popular Pottery Barn, and Williams -Sonoma. Oh yes, do pop in at the ultimate destination for kids; Build-a-Bear Workshop. Sporting, electronics and specialty stores offer an array of diversity for shoppers. Southside/Baymeadows is also home to Deerwood and Deercreek Country Clubs. These guard gated, high-end neighborhoods have homes built in the 70's, 80’s and 90’s, priced from $500K to over $1 million. Each community has its own members-only golf and country club. Deercreek has within its perimeter a 285-acre wildlife and wetlands preserve and is across from the Avenues Mall, while Deerwood is one of the few communities in the heart of Jacksonville where you find estates with four or more acres.

The Regal at the Avenues Multiplex is three minutes north of the mall on Philips Highway (US1) . Just south of the Avenues is Automobile Row which boasts many recently built new car dealerships, including Ford, Toyota, Honda, Chevy, and many foreign and domestic brands.

The newest addition for nightlife is "Latitude 30"; a new concept that immediately caught on as a destination of choice catering to kids of all ages from all over Jacksonville. It's over 50,000 square feet of pure entertainment right across the street from the Avenues Mall. There's "Boutique bowling," an expansive dining room that doubles as a cinema, cutting-edge arcade games and billiards, a sports bar and a Las Vegas-style showroom theater. A great place for the guys to hang out while the gals shop at the Avenues Mall; then everyone can meet up to enjoy a quiet sumptuous relaxing dinner for a surprisingly reasonable price at Sunset 30 Tavern & Grill. Southside/Baymeadows is indeed a central location, as Jacksonville neighborhoods go, because it's a short drive north, south, east or west to other very popular neighboring sections of town such as Downtown, the Beaches,Orange Park and Jacksonville International Airport (JIA). It's no more than 20-30 minute drive to just about anywhere in the city, so Southside/Baymeadows can truly claim its place as possibly the most central, convenient location to live in the Jacksonville metro area.
