San Jose Area
San Jose is a few miles south of San Marco and north of the Mandarin suburbs which makes it one of the most convenient locales, equally close to downtown and all of Mandarin's suburban shopping, restaurants and services. It's a true Mediterranean revival neighborhood, home to San Jose Golf and Country Club, and the nationally known Bolles Preparatory School. Many San Jose neighborhoods were built in the 1970s and beginning in the mid 1990s, a rehab boom started in San Jose, with a flood of young professionals who gave the area a serious makeover. Many of the 70s-era ranch and two story homes are now retrofitted with all the modern touches - granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and elegantly groomed landscapes.
A jewel in the San Jose's crown is the former home of industrialist Alfred I. DuPont, Epping Forest. Epping is a 58-acre formerly private estate, now one of Jacksonville's most prestigious upscale gated communities. The million-dollar plus homes and condos now populate the nationally known estate, added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The mansion itself has been transformed into the Epping Forest Yacht and Dining club, restored to its original grandeur for thise well-heeled residents to enjoy the private marina, exquisite club house and tennis club. Epping Forest is also a favorite destination for weddings and upscale events.
